Creative ideas
I came up with the name "Swipe it Right" so users can easily associated with the well known function of Tinder swiping right to show interest, and resonate with users on "swiping right" as if "matching correctly".
I proposed to present with a drama by drafting the plot of <Morgan's Story>, characters for teammates, script writing and dress code.
It may sound hilarious that Marcus ended up in jail (using zoom :D) but it was drafted base on a news last year, which a 25-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after targeting at least 15 men on gay dating sites, which some begged him or even considered suicide.
1. face-to-face (16 Dec): make use of face-to-face interactions and break the traditional and boring way to go from slide to slide
2. zoom (27 Jan): again I suggested our dress code. Without the masks on, we agreed as a team to maximize the interactive for our presentation (as any detailed content could be read from our submission later). Thanks Marcus pulling me out from overthinking sometimes.
Research process
- research via news search to get some ideas first
- realize topic is too narrow with just romance scam
- start a Google doc (must read!) to record, then tidy up into different sections, base on my assumptions
- review lecture notes on theories and relevant concepts
- get inspired to add more digital issues like cyber security and data privacy
- search on Google scholar to justify my thinking
Finally, I created the narrative by connecting the dots and finding missing puzzles to complete the storyline, aka finalize the user journey of our website
Processing from text & stats to infographic & animation
I'm the one who design and manage the Google doc so every team member can refer to the corresponding to-do-list, while Gary did a great job an time management reminding us the deadlines he indicated. After I mapped out the narrative, I've read through then filtered every piece of information. From information to knowledge, (OMG) it took me so much time and energy to digest and draft the text of all infographics, then Gary and Morgan to design the infographics. I've put instructions on the layout design as much as possible say using a timeline, an arrow or checkbox, which figures to highlight and sequence to present different information on one infographic.
I'm shocked and sad to realize how some victims who were targeted for sextortion committed suicide, so I reckon this as a serious digital issue worth highlighting. Thus, I proposed to create an animation and drafted the voiceover (highlighted messages and suggested graphics too) for Gary and Morgan to create the animation. I've also created a petition base on a sad news where a young mother got murdered.
